Robert E Nickel, MD
Robert E Nickel, MD is a developmental pediatrician and Professor of Pediatrics at the Child Development and Rehabilitation Center (CDRC), Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU). He completed his fellowship in developmental pediatrics at the University of Washington and has worked at the CDRC since that time. He works primarily in the Eugene CDRC office which he directed for over 15 years. He is also former director of the Center for Children with Special Health Needs at OHSU, represented CDRC on the State Interagency Coordinating Council for Early Intervention/Early childhood Special Education, and currently is chair of the Oregon Pediatric Society’s Committee on Children with Disabilities. Dr Nickel is former medical director of OHSU’s team that participates in the Autism Treatment Network (ATN) and continues to participate in that multi-university research collaboration on the medical problems of children with autism. He is editor and principle author of The Physician’s Guide to Caring for Cildren with Disabilities and Chronic Conditions and collaborated with Drs Diane Bricker and Jane Squires in the development of the Ages and Stages Questionnaires: A Parent-Completed Child Monitoring System. A primary interest of his is the early identification of children with disabiltiies in the primary care office.
